History: These five properties form an integral part of the historical core of Montagu, which was largely laid out on the farm Uitvlugt in 1850. The buildings which are situated in Long Street, the oldest street in the town, as well as Bath Street, which serves as main road, date from the late nineteenth century and reflect the Cape Dutch and Victorian styles of building.
The building in Piet Retief Street, with its Cape Dutch and Georgian characteristics, was designed by the architect John Parker and was erected in 1910 as primary school for the town. It was bought and restored in 1976 by the Municipality of Montagu
