History: In 1723 the property Pontak, just over 2 morgen in size, was granted to Jan Labuschagne (whether his ancestors had come from Pontaix in Dauphine is not certain; the name suggests it). The homestead still stands, at the head of Pontak St, but who of the many owners through whose hands the property passed during the 18c was the builder, is not certain. It is now a 2-storeyed house of considerable size, with a balcony and outer woodwork (except for a tell-tale flush casement at the back), XIXd. The interior retains yellowwood ceilings and single-panel doors dating from before 1800. Its plan suggests an original H-shape. The house is now divided into 2 halves and there is no voorhuis. Instead, a large hall occupies the space between the front and back rows of rooms. There is a werf wall in front and, at the side, there are 2 modernized outbuildings.
