History: These three properties, granted to Jan Jonathan Durandt, William MacDonald Mackay and Robert Robinson, respectively, were three of the first lots to be allocated immediately after the founding of Somerset East on the old experimental farm of Lord Charles Somerset on 1 April 1825. The buildings on the properties date from 1825 to 1830. Also of interest is the fact that William MacDonald Mackay was the first and only landdrost of Somerset East.
