Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

History: Built in about 1903 for Sir Abe Bailey, a well-known mining magnate. After WWII,the houses were used
The two adjacent buildings were designed for wealthy diamond magnstes in about 1903. They, were originally two seperate villas but are now being run as a private hotel.
Visual Description: Two freestanding and two storied villas of the Edwardian period; of the gabled types with corner verandas in tirnber; lower verandas wider with cat-slide corrugated iron roofs above ; ventilations to gables, coloured glass to.entrance doors and sidelights and other notable details; most significant is the stepped siting of the two houses which toqether with the adjacent ""Atherton"", 295 Florida Road ( a proclaimed monument) form one of the most imposing Edwardian groups mt he country. The garden with hedges, palms and gates if also notable. They are important architecturally, environmentally and historically. Classified as""listed"" buildings no’s 11.27 and 11.28 in Prof Kearney’s survey of Durban

Directions:
Turn to north onto Musgrave Rd from Berea Rd North. Turn right into Woodley Rd, shortly after crossing set back from the street. The property together with the so-called Cottam Grove Hotel complex thereon, described as: (i) Sub A of Lot C of Lots 39, 40 and 41, Block D... in extent 1061 square metres.
