Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

History: This impressive Victorian farmhouse, with its ornamental wood-decorated veranda, was built in 1873 by Sir Frederick Moor. He was the last Prime Minister of the Colony of Natal.
Visual Description: Single storey farmhouse with verandas to front and side, wide stone steps leading to main entrance,
Colours: gabled bay window, wooden sliding sash windows and doors,decorative wooden barge boarding. Alteration: Side verandah enclosed (since restored) ; new kitchen and store added to rear.
Site Features: Outbuilding converted into dining/conference room; various other farm outbuildings

The farm on which Greystone is situated formed part of the farm Veglaer where in 1838 a group of Voortrekkers resisted a Zulu army; it was inhabited by the Pretorius family until 1869, when it was taken over by William Moor; used by Veld & Vlei 1968. Bibliography archive:
