Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Archive Import: The farmstead has been owned by various well-known Natal figures over the years and is a good example of Union Period verandah style of its time.
History: Built in 1867 by Mr George Ross, well-known Natal farmer, the farmstead has had numerous owners over the years, including Dr PETER Sutherland, well-known medical doctor, botanist, geologist and SurveyorGeneralof Natal 1854-87 (some confusionover the dates) now houses SAPPI research station.
Visual Description: U-shaped building, verandah columns, corrugated iron roof and stone plinths. Alterations: extentions to provide adequate accommodation for SAPPI research division: some internal alterations.

Directions:
From the N3 heading north turn off to Tweedie just after passing Howick. Turn left to Tweedie. The Tweedie Research Station together with ten metres of surronding land, situated on Subdivision 404 of the farm Alleman's Drift 950 in the Midmar Regulated Area, County of Pietermaritzburg, Province of Natal.
