Changes to SAHRIS!

Archive Import; Proclaimed a National monument on the3rd November 1989.
Significance: This fine stone bridge was completed in 1898 on the instructions of the Government of the South African Republic.
History: The road to Vryheid crosses the Pivaan River about 19 kilometres from Paulpietersburg. The bridge is another of the stone arched bridges built in the time of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek. On 9th December, 1895, the Executive Committee resolved to build the bridge and the contract was awarded to A. Klute. The work was Unfortunately delayed by the outbreak of Rinderpest and was only completed in May, 1898. The bridge consists of three arches: two of 18 m and one of 6 m. The total cost of the bridge was R26 394.

Vryheid - Paulpietersburg route via Natal Hot Springs (not R33). From Vryheid left at turn-off. A crtain piece of land called Krugar Bridge Monument, includingthe bridge, situate in the districts of Utrecht and Vryheid, Province of Natal, as shown in Diagram S.G. No. 4689/1965, surveyed by surveyor R.H. Weissin September 1965.
