Changes to SAHRIS!

Archive Import: Significance; This unusual cast-iron structure, erected on its present site in 1906, is one of the two oldest functioning lighthouses on the Kwa-Zulu Natal coastline, having been in service since 1892. It is a prominent landmark on the Port Shepstone beachfront.
History: Present lighthouse replaced the first light marking entrance to harbour, erected in 1895. The lighthouse was originally one of two commissioned in1892 at Scottburgh, to warn shipping at Aliwal Shoal, and was moved to Port Shepstone in 1905.
Visual Description: A pedimented and framed entrance door (and window) gives access to the tapering tower of cast iron segments bolted together in 'stretched bond fashion"; the tower is terminated by a circumferential balcony, a lanteen (partly covered), dome and weather vane: cast-iron base with cleats stabilise tower which is painted in black and white rectangles-upright:
