Changes to SAHRIS!

Archive Import:Sigmificance: One of the earliest British Settler homes in Byrne, Natal, built by Fred McLeod.
History: This cottage was built by Fred McCleod, who was one of the children of George and Ellen McCleod. They were from the original Byrne Settlers, one of the most important English immigrant schemes that took place in Natal in the middle of the nineteenth century. Building commenced in 1878 and the house was completed 1879.
Donated to National Monuments Council by Douglas McLeod.
Simpedwelling with front verandah:
Interior: yellowwood flooring: roof beams; door jambs, etc (original part)
Alteration: addition of a number of rooms over a period of years:
SiteFeat: remnant of original orchard planted by Fred McLeod.

Blarney Cottage is of a simple design and built of bricks burnt on site. Although presently a seven-roomed house, it originally consisted of three rooms; the living room and two bedrooms with a bathroom to the rear. The other rooms were added in 1887. The timber work to the house was predominantly yellowwood.
Visual Description: The Blarney Cottage, a wattle-and daub hut and a wooden barn. Simple dwelling with front verandah.
