Changes to SAHRIS!

Archive Import: Significance: Birthplace of General Louis Botha, an historically important South African leader and politician.
History: The site of a simple house which has completely disappeared. In that house Gen. Louis Botha, Commandant-General of the Zuid-Afrilcaansche Republiek from 1900 to 1902, Prime Minister of the Transvaal from 1906 to 1910 and the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa from 1910 to 1919, was born. According to a written statement by his eldest sister, the General’s parents lived on the farm Onrust, now called Glenavon, 14 kilometres from Greytown. All the children except Louis were born there. The General was born on 27th September, 1862, on the small farm Honingfontein which was a subdivision of Hartebeest vlakte and at that time belonged to C. H. Heine.
The site on which the house stood was purchased by a well-known Indian resident of Greytown, Mr. M. E. Lakhi, who donated it to the Town Council of Greytown for safe keeping as a memorial to General Botha. The Town Council later transferred it to the Historical.

General Louis Botha was born on 27 September 1862 on the farm Hartebeest Vlakte, which was the property of CH Heine at the time. The house in which Louis Botha was born does not exist any more. Gen. Botha was the first Prime Minister (1910-1919) of the Bibliography archive:

From Greytown take the R33 to Pietermaritzburg. About 3.5km from the centre of Greytown turn left on: Sub-division 'B''of ''G" of Hartebeest Vlagte No. 1355, in the County of Umvoti, Natal, in extent one, (1) rood twenty-five point five two (25.52) perches.
