was straight stone walling up to 1.5 m htgb,_and said to be a British position during the Anglo - Boer War 10). Supporting that claim was a rusted metal tin embossed with "J. T. Morton. London" I found, and, on the north slopes of the hill, I also saw a sparse scatter of artefacts on chert and quartzite, that most possibly reflects sporadic MSA. The thin upper gravel in the pan trench produced a low density of heavily weathered Early Acheulean, with a cleaver and a distinctive narrow handaxe, largely based on andesite.
