ProposalDescription:

South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Developments (Pty) Ltd ("Mainstream") is proposing to develop the 160 megawatt (MW) Kganya Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Facility (SEF) and associated infrastructure, including Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near the town of Bultfontein in the Free State Province. The overall objective of the proposed SEF is to generate electricity by means of renewable energy technology, capturing solar energy to feed into the national grid.

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed 160 MW Kganya SEF is one of nine SEFs collectively referred to as the “Bultfontein Solar PV Cluster”. The proposed SEF will consist of PV Panels, internal and access roads, a construction laydown area/camp, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Building and Independent Power Producer (IPP) portion of Substation, amongst other associated infrastructure. In addition to the infrastructure mentioned above, the SEF will also include a 400 MWh BESS facility located within the Project’s 25 ha O&M Complex. Currently, the battery technologies being considered are either Solid State Batteries or Redox Flow Batteries. The solar PV energy facility will have a generation capacity of up to 160 MW.
