PORTION OF PORTION 67 OF THE FARM VAALKOPPIES 40, STRAUSSBURG //Khara Hais Local Municipality, Northern Cape Province

Expanded_Motivation:

This application is applicable on Portion 67 of the Farm Vaalkoppies 40 on which 3 areas have been disturbed. The current owner bought the farm in 2009 and at that time a certain section of approximately 8ha has already been ploughed without anything planted on it. The applicant again cleaned this previously ploughed/disturbed site, but did not plant anything on it. The second portion which has been disturbed is situated directly adjacent to an existing olive plantation. In order to be able to properly manage the existing plantation, some of the older trees must be removed and replanted. In order to do this, a section of approximately 8ha has been prepared for the planting of the new trees. The third disturbed area is approximately 3ha in size and on this site an additional 3 storage areas have been constructed. The construction work at these buildings was almost completed at the time of the site inspection which was on 11 March 2010 by MEG Omgewingsimpakstudies. Adjacent to these storage facilities the owner plans to develop a house as well as accommodation for the farm workers. No construction work has however commenced at the time of the site visit. Details of the activities includes three storage facilities that have been constructed of which one will be utilized for the processing of the olives and the remaining two will be used as storage facilities. The existing farm roads have been formalized and the property has existing water and electricity supplies. The storage facility will be used for the storage of materials and the processing of the olives. Subsequently a Scoping and EIA was conducted on the entire farm for agriculture development and authorised. • Ref No. NNO 25/19, NC/SIY/KHA/UPING1/21/2010 • Permit No.: 39/2010 dated 15 December 2010
