ProposalDescription:

New water pipeline between the Bloemhof Dam and Schweizer-Reneke: NHRA Section 34(1) attachment of new pipeline to the Harts River Bridge outside Schweizer-Reneke, Dr Ruth S. Mompati District Municipality, Northwest Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

The capacity of existing water sources and infrastructure is unable to meet the need for water demand for the Greater Mamusa area (Schweizer-Reneke, including Ipelegeng) for 2030 and therefore the most viable option is to obtain water from the Bloemhof Dam.The proposed project consists of the establishment of a bulk water scheme between Schweizer Reneke and Bloemhof that includes the upgrading of the Bloemhof abstraction work and Bloemhof Water Treatment Works and the construction of a pipeline. The proposed route will connect the existing abstraction works to the Water Treatment Works. From the Bloemhof WTW, the pipeline will be laid within the road reserve of the R34 towards Schweizer-Reneke. The new pipeline will cross the Harts River by means of a pipe bridge, i.e. steel brackets and supports will be fixed to the existing bridge which is supported by a sandstone structure made up of finely dressed masonry. Originally built in 1896, the structure is of the usual type for the period, carrying two 18m spans of steel beams. The deck has subsequently been replaced by concrete.
