Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

There are currently a total of 1 489 waste tyres present on waste rock dump W07 on the mine. A new initiative has been proposed, in partnership with REDISA (Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa), for the waste tyres that have accumulated on the mine. The proposed initiative is called the OTR Downsizing Project and entails downsizing waste tyres on the mine before they are removed to REDISA depots where the rubber pieces can be re-used and/or recycled as part of other initiatives, such as in waste tyre pyrolysis plants. The proposed project includes the de-beading, cutting and shredding of waste tyres into small rubber pieces. The following infrastructure, machinery and vehicles will form part of the above mentioned project and process: 1. Tyre de-beader: The de-beader will be used to remove the bead bundles from the tyres. A tele handler will load the tyres into the de-beader. 2. Punch cutter: The punch cutter will be used to cut the tyres in bagel sections (in other words, to cut the tyres horizontally into two halves). The tyres will be loaded into the cutter using a tele handler and the movement of the punch cutter will be via a portal crane or tele handler. 3. Tyre cutter: The cutter will be used to cut the tyres into segments that can be loaded into the shredder unit. A tele handler will handle the tyres and a skid loader will be used to move the segments. 4. Two mobile shredders: The shredders will be used to shred the segments from the tyre cutter into small pieces. The shredders will be loaded using a tele handler and skid loaders. 5. Tele handler: The tele handlers will be used to move the bulk of all mobile materials at the facility. 6. Skid loader(s): The skid loaders will be used to move segmented rubber material. 7. Portal crane: A portal crane may be used to move the punch cutter onto and off of the tyres. Such a crane will require a concrete slab. 8. Fuel tank: A 1 500 to 2 000 litre fuel tank may be installed depending on the selected fuelling system. 9. Two park homes for meeting/lunch rooms and to house the site management team. 10. Ablution facilities. 11. Workshops: Either with concrete bases or merely consisting of containers. 12. Fencing: A 2m high diamond mesh perimeter fence with a 10m wide gate. 13. Shade netting: Either portable gazebos (3m x 3m) or fixed netting with concrete slabs. 14. Side tipper trucks to transport the shredded rubber. It is assumed that the truck trailers will hold 18-20 tons of shredded rubber. 15. Rorobins: Waste tyre beading and rubber crumbs will be disposed of using Rorobin systems. The tyre crumbs will likely be contaminated with concrete, soil, steel and rubber and will therefore not be suitable for recycling. This waste will need to be disposed of at a suitably licensed landfill site. 16. Wheelie bins for general waste sorting. 17. Conveyors. 18. Lightning protection. Wetting of the tyres is being considered in order to improve the cutting and shredding process.
