Heritage Cases

Sea View Station is on the District 1 Line of the "Old Natal Main line". The District 1 line was first opened in 1878, however Sea View Station was not on the original line in 1880 (as seen in the steam rail timetable for December 1880). The station is older than 60 years, and contains a pedestrian bridge that appears to be original (older than 60 years). When referring to old photos of original bridges at Sarnia and Umbilo, the Sea View bridge has some similar details. The sections (heavy and wide) and details (dome rivets), balustrade Sections (also wide), and balustrade stanchions and lattice are reminiscent of these. Additional structures on the site of a ticket office, entrance structure and seating structure appear to be less than 60 years old and have no heritage value. A description of the illegal work of the site is outlined below: Ticket Office -New masonry ticket office with portico facing West side with portico facing the West side with brick piers. -Building has a double pitched, tiled roof and is plastered and painted. Timber rafters and purlins -Small ticketing window with counter facing West side, and openings to South, East and North sides Entrance Structure -Galvanised streel frame structure with circular steel hollow sections with gates. Painted. -Partially-covered by a corrugated sheeting roof with timber trusses and purlins. Seating Structure -Masonry seating structure with masonry beams and 3 masonry piers on each of the long NE and SW facing sides. Piers and beams are plastered and painted. Low masonry wall (plastered and pained) sits inside the masonry piers on the short SE and NW facing sides. - Wide, concrete chamfered bench, painted, positioned in the middle of the structure under the roof. -In-situ concrete floor surface reached edges of masonry piers.
