Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

The application is made in terms of Section 35 (4) of the NHRA, No. 25 of 1999 in response to authority Final Comment on the Phase I HIA conducted on the project.

Expanded_Motivation: 

In 2019 PGS Heritage conducted a Phase 1 – Heritage Impact Assessment for the proposed development of Limpopo Central Hospital on Erf 6861 of Pietersburg Extension 30, Polokwane. The HIA resulted to the identification of historic stonewall settlement foundations and a midden. In its Final Comment, the SAHRA requested a Phase II mitigation for the identified heritage resources in terms of Section 35 (4) of the NHRA (Act 25 of 1999). The current application is for Phase II HIA mitigation of the identified heritage resources. It involves applying for mitigation permit with the SAHRA APM Unit, on acquisition of heritage mitigation permit to measure the site and the identified heritage resources using surveyor tools, excavation of the site to determine the extent of stonewall foundations and to excavate the midden on site to determine the type of archaeological material and objects used by the occupants of the settlement. To develop a Phase II report with maps and sketches of the site, results of material revealed in the excavation of the site and the midden and the analysis of the identified material. This application is made to address authority comment and requirements on the project.
