ProposalDescription:

Exxaro Resources Ltd (Exxaro) is proposing to construct an accommodation facility to house construction workers who will be constructing the Market Coke & Co-Generation Plant (plant already authorised by Limpopo Dept. of Economic Development, Environment & Tourism (LEDET) ref.12/1/9/2-W12), at the Grootegeluk Coal Mine, Lephalale, Limpopo. The Construction Accom-modation Facility will be located on the Farm Enkelbult 462 LQ, in the boundaries of Grootegeluk Coal Mine. The site is approximately 6 hectares, adjacent to the D2001 district road. To enable the construction of the Market Coke and Co-Generation Plant to be completed to required levels of accuracy, technical specifications and budget requirements, an enquiry was issued to the open market worldwide in 2012. After tender adjudication, two shortlisted tenderers were chosen, both are from China. As construction of the coke ovens requires skills which are currently only available in China, the tenderers indicated that they need to bring skilled workers from China. Thus a Construction Accommodation Facility is proposed to be built near the plant construction site (on the property of Grootegeluk Coal Mine), to house the construction workers. At the peak of construction, 500 – 600 workers will be on site. The Construction Accommodation Facility will consist of temporary housing and Exxaro will supply the required services from the existing supplies at Grootegeluk Coal Mine.
