Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Detail of Structures or improvements on site: Installation of pipeline for the Western Aqueduct. See report prepared by Knight Piesold Consulting. C. SIGNIFICANCE: 1. Status of the Site: Generally Protected structure over 60years old. Age : approximately 110yrs. The structure is a remnant of a dry-stack stonewall originally on the Gillitt’s farm marking the boundary or subdivisions of the farm. William Gillitt, one of the “Byrne” settlers, bought 500 acres of land from the farm Everton and established the farm “Emberton” in 1870. The farm land was later subdivided and sold for farming and later residential purposes – the suburb was named “Gillitts” after William Gillitt. UNLAWFUL WORK 1. Purpose of the work (Damage/Demolition; Removal from site; Alteration/ Addition; Subdivision) : Damage 2. Date when the work was first commenced: 24/02/2014 3. Current Status of the Work (Completed/Stopped pending application outcome; Underway/continuing; Repair/Redecoration; Amendment of Site Plan; Stopped prior to finalisation; Decommissioned and the site rehabilitated; Decommissioned and the site abandoned ): Work is currently underway. 4. Detail of the work (Provide full details on the nature and purpose of the work ): Refer to report of September 2014 by Knight Piesold Consulting. 5. Motivation (Motivate the purpose of the work and why it was begun/completed unlawfully) : Clearing and grubbing was done in order to excavate trenches for the Western Aqueduct bulk water supply pipeline. Site foreman was not aware of the location of the stonewall and thought it was rock lying on site.
