ProposalDescription:

South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Developments (Pty) Ltd ("Mainstream") is proposing to develop a 132kV overhead power line and 132kV portion of the Eskom Switching Station and associated grid connection infrastructure to support the proposed 100MW Letsha Solar PV Facility near the town of Bultfontein in the Free State Province. The proposed grid connection infrastructure is required to evacuate and feed electricity generated by the PV facility to the national grid.

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed 132kV overhead power line and 132kV Eskom portion of the on-site switching station will support the 100 MW Letsha PV SEF which is one of nine SEFs collectively referred to as the “Bultfontein Solar PV Cluster”. Each individual SEF within the Bultfontein Solar PV Cluster will connect to the grid by way of its own supporting grid connection infrastructure. The supporting grid connection infrastructure will consist of one (1) x 33kV/132kV switching station / Eskom portion of the on-site substation which will be located in the O&M complex; one (1) x 132kV overhead power line which will connect their respective on-site substations for the SEF project to the Main Transmission Substation (MTS). The power line will be within a 300m wide corridor (150m on either side of the centre line), and this corridor will be applied to the perimeter of the on-site substation. Ten (10) separate applications will be submitted for the grid connection infrastructure projects i.e. Nine (9) applications for the 132kV switching stations and 132kV overhead power lines connecting to the MTS and one (1) application for the MTS and 275kV or 400kV overhead power line connecting to the existing Eskom power line. The ten (10) grid connection infrastructure projects are located within the Central Strategic Transmission Corridor. The focus of this application is the proposed 132kV overhead power line, 132kV Eskom portion of the on-site substation and associated infrastructure related to the Letsha PV SEF.
