ProposalDescription:

Expansion project - Waste Rock Dump and Pipeline_Vergenoeg Mine

Expanded_Motivation:

Since SAHRA's initial correspondence a Heritage Impact Assessment was completed by Apelser Archaeological Consulting, dated December 2013. This study indicated that no sites, features or objects of archaeological or historical importance were found. The mentioned study has now been uploaded on the site. The mine is located on the Rooiberg Group consisting of volcanic (igneous) rock with no possibility of any palaeontological features to exist in the region. The proposed projects will not include any excavations therefore a palaeontological assessment was deemed unnecessary. As for the current state of the project GDARD granted partial authorisation for the project, with the waste rock dump pending the approval of a biodiversity offset. This component of the application is still on-going.
