ProposalDescription:

The Proposed Construction of a 66kV Deviation Powerline (± 400 Meters in Length) from the Existing Knobel-Gilead Distribution Powerline, Molemole Local Municipality, Limpopo Province

Expanded_Motivation:

Given the above observation, GA Environment (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Eskom Holdings SOC (Eskom) to undertake a Basic Assessment (BA) process for the proposed construction of an approximately 400m long 66kV deviation powerline from the existing Knobel-Gilead distribution powerline. Currently the existing 66kV powerline is feeding Gilead 66/22kV substation from Knobel 132/66kV transformer. With the Gilead substation being upgraded to 132/22kV Substation, there is therefore a need to re-route or deviate the Knobel-Gilead powerline from the 66kV side to connect on the 132kV busbar of the Knobel substation. The proposed deviation powerline will feed onto the existing Knobel-Gilead Powerline. Summary of the Phase I Archaeological and Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment (Beyond Heritage, 2023):  There are no archaeological or physical cultural features within the proposed development footprint;  There are no anticipated conflicts between archaeological or physical cultural features during the construction of the proposed powerline; and  Considering the very low archaeological and cultural heritage sensitivity of the area, no further archaeological and cultural heritage studies, ground truthing and/or permits (Phase II) are required pending the discovery of any archaeological or cultural heritage features during the construction phase.
