ProposalDescription:

Temporary Export Permit Application for the Study of the Ostrich Eggshell Fragments and Beads from Grassridge Rockshelter, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Expanded_Motivation:

Grassridge Rockshelter has yielded a large quantity of archaeological ostrich eggshell fragments, beads, and preforms, as well as several potential gastropod shell beads. I have arranged for a Masters student at the University of Victoria, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. April Nowell (Nowell 2006, 2010; Nowell and White 2012), to conduct a non-destructive study of these important artefacts. In this regard, I am applying to SAHRA for a two-year export permit in order to ship the artefacts to the University of Victoria for analysis from March 13, 2016 to March 13, 2018. Grassridge is located on Quaggasfontein farm, Eastern Cape.
