Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

All of the material remains from the site of Spitzkloof A have been analyzed and returned to South Africa. The only material that has not been analyzed are the lithics. I wish to export five boxes of Spitzkloof A lithics to Dr Alex Mackay at the University of Wollongong, Australia for analysis. Once this analysis is finished the documentation of the site will be complete and the material will be sent to the Kimberley Museum in the Northern Cape.

Expanded_Motivation:

Dr Alex Mackay has been identified as the specialist analyst for the Middle Stone Age lithics from Spitzkloof Rockshelter since the beginning of the project with Dr Jayson Orton analyzing the Later Stone Age material. As Dr Mackay is currently located at the University of Wollongong, Australia it is necessary to ship the lithics to him for analysis. While he does spend some time in Cape Town where the specimens are currently stored, he is limited to a few weeks, in which he has to run his own excavation in the Western Cape. This means that he does not have the time to analyze the material in Cape Town. Dr Mackay and his students are very efficient and I am sure they will complete the analysis in a timeous way. I will then have him ship the MSA lithics back to Cape Town so I can arrange for all of the material to be sent to the final resting place at the McGregor Museum in Kimberley.
