Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Special Notice

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Filming in Cradle for Wits University

Filming for media and news purposes for Wits University at the following sites: Rising Star Cave, Malapa and Kromdraai. The filming is for public relations purposes to publicise the research and heritage of the area through the discoveries of Lee Berger and his team, and other Wits Academics who work in the area. Gauteng. The filming is not for profit, but for educational purposes.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Researchers from Wits University is working on new discoveries in the Cradle of Human Kind on an ongoing basis, and have found a number of national treasures, the latest being the Homo naledi fossils. Wits University's communications department has been asked to document and publicise the discoveries, through filming news clips and distributing them to media. As the work on these sites are ongoing, the University requires a year-long filming permit at these sites, with the option to renew. We would also need permission to accompany news outlets to the site. All filming crew members would be accompanied by trained palaeontologists during any visit. The filming is not for profit, but for educational puposes.
