Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Proposed glass replacement / repair within the Old Assembly Building of the Parliament Precinct, Western Cape.,

Expanded_Motivation:

• Description / location of identified issue with photo evidence - Old Assembly Building, damaged glass in the double doors leading to the Old Assembly chamber which needs to be replaced - Old Assembly Building, damaged glass in the double doors leading to the ANC Chairperson’s office which needs to be replaced • Damaged material specification and location of substitute material - The glass which needs to be replaced is an old style Flemish glass which is no longer being manufactured. There is a newer style Flemish glass available via our supplier, All Glass however this pattern varies slightly from the older, outdated glass and the look is slightly different as well. - • Proposed method of repair - It has been proposed by the Parliament Artswork administrator, Lila Komnick that glass which has been identified in the Marks Building that matches the glass required in the Old Assembly be removed and refitted where the repairs are required. The newer style Flemish glass would then be installed in the Marks Building where there already are mismatches with newer and older Flemish glass. • Alternative proposed method of repair utilising similar aesthetically like material - The alternative would be to install the newer Flemish glass in both areas within the Old Assembly building without disturbing the glass at Marks Building.
