Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Rural Maintenance (Pty) Ltd proposes the establishment of a power generation facility on Portion 0 of Farm Retreat 936, Mafube Local Municipality, Free State Province. The facility will address the demand for increased energy capacity for the towns of Villiers and Frankfort. The facility is proposed to accommodate an energy mix comprising a 10MW coal fired stream generation plant, 6MW tyre pyrolysis power generation plant and a 3MW photovoltaic power generation plant.

Expanded_Motivation:

Rural Maintenance (Pty) Ltd has entered into a 25 year agreement with Mafube Local Municipality to address energy deficiencies for the towns of Villiers and Frankfort. Presently, energy demand outweighs supply for these towns, proving a constraint for growth and concerns over reliability of energy supply. The proposed energy mix for this development has been selected to deliver reliable supply through the inclusion of both renewable and non-renewable energy technologies. An Environmental Impact Assessment is to commence in early September to assess the impacts of the proposed facility, for which a phase 1 heritage impact assessment has been conducted.
