Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Proposed premium power supply (2 x 132kv powerlines) for the proposed Kriel Block F underground mine, Mpumalanga.

Expanded_Motivation:

Kriel Colliery (Kriel) is located near the town of Kriel in Mpumlanga. It supplies coal directly to the Kriel power station. Eskom has requested Kriel to invesitgate options for future developments to ensure a reliable coal supply. One of these options includes the Block F underground mine in the southern section of the coal reserve. A premium power supply (2 x 132kv powerlines) is required for the proposed Kriel Block F underground mine. An application for an EIA has been submitted to MDEDET for the infrastructure at the mine site while a BA application has been submitted to the DEA. Relevant other triggered activities (e.g. WULA) are being investigated. This case is specifically related to the powerline.
