ProposalDescription:

The Malelani Station Precinct has been identified as one of a series of heritage sites along the N4 Maputo corridor, that meets the criteria for the National Heritage Site. The site is a physical manifestation of Southern African Labor History which form the base of the area's economy and infrastructure. This route is of historic significance.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Malelane Station Precinct forms part of an extensive industrial development which was initiated by the South African Republic in the 1890s. The dream of an independent route to the sea has been one of the major motivation for white pioneer expansion to the north. The site represents the early development of the town's history through the preservation of a number of structures which date from the 1890s onwards.
