Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

The Applicant, Molaba Richard Moletelo, applied for environmental authorization to mine Sandstone from a 4.9 ha area of Thaba Bosiu, on the Remaining Extent of the farm Witziehoek 1926 about 13 km South-East of Phuthaditjhaba, Magisterial District of Phuthaditjhaba, Free State Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed site was identified as the preferred and only viable site alternative based on the following: • Due to the nature of the application and the presence of Sandstone at Witziehoek 1926 farm, the Sandstone mining area can be moved to various alternative sites. However, the proposed mining area entails the winning of Sandstone from an area previously used for Sandstone mining purposes. • The existing farm road to the mining area can be used to gain access to the site and no new roads have to be constructed. • Excavating or digging and removal and transportation of Sandstone, TLB activity and operation of mining equipment, and Stockpiling of Sandstone is easy and practical on-site.
