Farm Ratelgat in Van Rhysdorp is the site / place where Paramount Chief AAS Le Fleur would go on spiritual retreats in order to commune with God and receive his many visions and revelations that would result in the many prophecies that have an integral part of Griqua folklore. Since 2000 Ratelgat became a place of pilgrimage over the weekend close to 11 May consecrated as Ratelgatnaweek ( Ratelgat Weekend) i order to give thanks to God. A portion of the farm Ratelgat is Declared a Provincial Heritage Site.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Farm Ratelgat is one of the four destinations identified and included in the Western Coast Culture and Heritage Cluster which was established in response to several different strategies and initiatives that have been propagated in the Tourism sphere in South Africa. The site has a link to the history of the Griqua Nation and by this association, is probably the most important site and strongest tangible symbol of the people who have, through their tenacity and never-say-die attitude were almost the first frontiersmen and resisted the forces of radical displacement, colonialism and apartheid and various other natural and unnatural inequalities to maintain their identity and forge their dynamic culture so that it survive till this day.
