ProposalDescription:

The permit application is for the search for new marine mammal fossils at Langebaanweg (West Coast Fossil Park). Recent studies of the marine mammal fossils has made it evident that we need to expand our collections particularly with regards to the marine fauna. Three potential sites have been identified with a more marine signal allowing us to expand the collection which in turn allows the reconstruction of the marine fauna and palaeoenvironments. These studies will also give some insight into the effect of climate change on the marine and terrestrial fauna and palaeoenvironments during the Mio-Pliocene on the Western Cape's west cost.
