ProposalDescription:

Within the project area there are several sites where alleged graves are located that do not display any surface features. To validate this information a GPR survey is required before a full social consultation process for these sites can be implemented.

Expanded_Motivation:

The grave identification process on the Platreef project began in March 2014. The local community were invited to site, and in some cases where possible were visited personally, to register the graves their family had within the project area. From this process 181 graves were registered of which 60 fell within the fenced project area. The families of these 60 graves were continually met with during the first half of 2015 as part of a focused social consultation process. Coupled with this the Chief of the wider Mokopane region, the local headmen of the relevant affect villages as well as the graveyard committees were all met with and included in the focused social consultation process. During the end of this process a number of newly identified or alleged graves were identified by the local community. It is these areas which are to be included in the GPR survey. There is a total of 9 locations containing 19 possible graves. IVN_PGS 5A - possible 1 grave IVN_PGS 7 - possible 4 graves IVN_PGS 9 - possible 4 graves IVN_PGS 11A - possible 1 grave IVN_PGS 23 - possible 1 grave IVN_PGS 68 - possible 1 grave IVN_PGS 70 - possible 5 graves IVN_PGS 73 - possible 1 grave IVN_PGS 74 - possible 1 grave There are two objectives during this exercise. Firstly, to verify the existence of graves and secondly, to confirm the exact location of said graves.
