ProposalDescription:

Proposed Additions and Alterations to Portion of Erf 1,Ladysmith Town Hall, 151 Murchison Street, Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal,

Expanded_Motivation:

The Alfred Duma Local Municipality intends to erect a clear-view fence to border the side of the building which is being vandalized. The fence will also ensure protection of historical naval guns which are displayed outside of the building. This development will take place on a portion of the Remainder of Erf 1 Ladysmith, in KwaZulu NatalThe Alfred Duma Local Municipality is proposing to erect a clear view fence on the South Western boundary of the Ladysmith Town Hall along Queen Street. The fence will include a vehicle access gate used for the loading/off loading and an additional pedestrian gate to provide access for maintenance personnel. In terms of the National Heritage Resource Act No. 25 of 1999, the Ladysmith Town Hall was conferred a Grade II Provincial Landmark on the Gazette Notice No. 15619 dated 5 April 1994. Therefore, any repairs, additions or renovations of the building require that an application be made and the authorisation be granted in terms of the National Heritage Resource Act No. 25 of 1999 prior to any construction. Currently the area to be fenced off is exposed to public vandalism as it has become a urinating area and the displayed British naval guns are being used as street furniture and therefore being degraded.
