ProposalDescription:

Proposed closure of Pudimoe (abandoned) landfill site located on the Remaining Extent of the Farm Taung 894 HN.

Expanded_Motivation:

The abandoned landfill site in Pudimoe is no longer in used. Neither the operation nor the closure of the landfill site have been authorised. The Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District municipality have applied for the closure of the landfill site to the North-West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism. The abandoned waste disposal site is not formally classified, but it is estimated to be GCB- and is about 0.33 ha in extent. The size of the three waste heaps located on the landfill site is actually smaller. This site is a very small site in terms of the quantity of waste currently disposed of at the landfill as well as the actual footprint of the waste. The waste site needs to be lawfully closed and rehabilitated. Two scenarios or alternatives are available. The preferred alternative is to remove all of the waste to the soon to be commissioned waste site, close by (to the south east). Subsequent to the removal of the waste, it is proposed that the surface soil layer of the footprint of the waste site is cleaned and that the area is seeded with a suitable grass mix.
