ProposalDescription:

Gas pipeline from Avon substation to Shakaskraal

Expanded_Motivation:

EScience Associates (hereafter referred to as ESA) has been appointed to assess the environmental feasibility of the proposed development of a Compressed Natural Gas facility and gas pipeline that will connect the Lily gas pipeline, which runs from Secunda to Durban, to the Avon peaking power station in KwaZulu-Natal. This will allow the power station to move from a diesel powered station to a gas based power generation plant. The proposed development will also allow the people of Shakaskraal to utilise some of the gas for domestic and other small scale industrial uses. Natural Gas or Methane Rich Gas which is carried through the pipeline, is less expensive than Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and this will therefore allow for small industries to become more profitable. The pipeline will also supply gas to the proposed Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility that will be installed at the existing Avon peaking power plant site.
