ProposalDescription:

Proposed Klippoort Dam near Ladysmith, Emnambithi / Ladysmith Local Municipality, northern KwaZulu Natal.

Expanded_Motivation:

A dam is proposed on a property near Ladysmith in northern KZN. The proposed dam will affect four properties, namely (i) Farm Driehoek No. 2247, (ii) Rem of Portion 14 of Farm Klip Poort No. 1082, (iii) Portion 23 of Farm Klip Poort No. 1082 and (iv) Portion 15 of Farm Klip Poort No. 1082. The dam would comprise an earthen wall of approx 10 metres in height and is expected to cover an area of approx 100ha when full. The proposed dam has an estimated capacity of 2 300 000 m3 (2.3 million KL). The dam is proposed to enable the establishment and irrigation of crops on Klippoort and Driehoek Farm. The dam is also intended to reduce the impact of flash flooding and erosion on the farm, which currently prevents certain parts of the farm from being used. The dam would also allow for two neighbouring emerging farmers (Mr Albert Buthelezi and the Mbulawa Langa Family Trust), and the neighbouring community in Roosboom to have access to water for agricultural purposes.
