Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Latrodex (Pty) Ltd is proposing the construction of a 15MW Wind Energy Facility consisting of 5 (five) x 3 MW turbines to be located near Marshstrand, Great Kei Local Municipality, Eastern Cape. The development includes a 22 kV overhead power line (OHL) connecting to the WEF the existing Chaba and Rivermouth Substations. The power generated from the WEF will be used to provide electricity to the existing Wild Coast Abalone facility and excess electricity will be fed into the Eskom grid. The proposed WEF is to be located on the ridge overlooking the existing Wild Coast Abalone Facility.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The Final Basic Assessment Report for the Proposed Latrodex Wind Energy Facility and Overhead Powerline in the Great Kei Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape, has been submitted for a decision regarding authorisation, as per the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998; NEMA) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations 2014 (as amended in 2017 and 2021). Latrodex (Pty) Ltd is proposing the construction of a 15MW Wind Energy Facility consisting of 5 (five) x 3 MW turbines to be located near Marshstrand, Great Kei Local Municipality, Eastern Cape. The development includes a 22 kV overhead power line (OHL) connecting to the WEF the existing Chaba and Rivermouth Substations. According to the EIA regulations (2014, as amended) promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No.107 of 1998; NEMA) the potential impacts on the environment will have to be assessed in terms of the listed activities. The proposed WEF and associated infrastructure trigger listed activities in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations (2014, as amended) as per Listing Notices 1, and 3, and as such require a Basic Assessment process to be undertaken in accordance with Regulation 6 of the EIA Regulations (2014, as amended). The competent authority for this application will be the provincial Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT). CES has been appointed to undertake the Basic Assessment process on behalf of the Applicant.
