Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Proposed installation of roof top photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the Sexton's House, part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Complex, Erf 9245, corner Strand and Buitengracht Streets, Cape Town, Western Province

Expanded_Motivation:

The Sexton's House is one of four buildings in the Evangelical Lutheran Church complex. The complex as a whole is recognised as a heritage resource of national significance, as verified by its provisional declaration as a National Heritage Site. The Sexton's House is considered to contain less significance and is considered to be a Grade II resource within the overall Grade I site. The long term tenants of the Sexton's House, The Netherlands Consulate General, wish to implement electrical generation through the installation of rooftop photovoltaic panels. The panels are proposed be installed ±50-70mm above the low-pitched corrugated sheet metal roofs and run parallel with the fall. They will not be visible above the parapet walls and can be removed at any stage. There is thus no negative impact on the significance of the heritage resource.
