Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

The Prospecting Right application was submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) for the prospecting of viable deposits of coal on various portions of the Farm Waterval No. 157. The Prospecting area subjected to this application is located ca. 35 km from Newcastle and ca. 39 km from the town of Utrecht. Prospecting activities will take place on the following farm portions listed below: • Remainder of Portion 3 (of 2) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Remainder of Portion 4 (of 1) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Portion 5 (of 1) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Remainder of Portion 6 (of 1) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Portion 7 (of 1) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Portion 14 (of 6) of Waterval No. 157HT; • Portion 19 (of 6) of Waterval No. 157HT • Portion 20 (of 2) of Waterval No. 157HT; and • Portion 22 of Waterval No. 157HT. Prospecting activities will be undertaken over a period of three (3) years and this application is for both invasive and non-invasive methods. Invasive methods are activities that result in land disturbances and comprise of diamond core drilling, sampling and sampling storage. Non-invasive methods are methods that do not cause disturbances to the land and include desktop research and include detailed geophysical surveys. At completion, all sample boreholes will be cemented, sealed and capped. The drill sites will be rehabilitated as per the specifications of the approved EMP and associated conditions of the Prospecting Right. A total of 31 boreholes are planned. Stakeholders affected by the proposed prospecting activities will be consulted before any activities take place.
