Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Relocation of 1 grave - Somkhele Coal Mine (Luhlanga in the Kwa-Myeki Tribal Area)

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd and North Coast Funerals has been appointed by Somkhele Coal Mine to assist with the relocation of one (1) graves that will be affected by mining in the area of Luhlanga in the Kwa-Myeki Tribal Area, Mtubatuba Local Municipality, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The next-of-kin of the affected graves were contacted by Somkhele Mine and the need for the graves to be relocated has been explained to them. They consequently gave written permission (in the form of affidavits) for the graves to be relocated. There is five other graves in this area that will also be exhumed and relocated but which is not older than 60 years and therefore do not fall within the legislation framework for AMAFA Kwa-Zulu Natal. The excavated human remains from the grave will be relocated to the Kwa-Myeki area as requested by the family representatives. It must be mentioned that Somkhele Mine has been in continuous contact with the next-of-kin of the affected graves and they are fully aware of the relocation process.
