Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd and Avbob Vryheid branch has been appointed by Ikwezi Mine (Pty) Ltd to assist with the relocation of sixteen (16) graves that will be affected by mining in the area mentioned above. The excavated human remains from the graves will be relocated to the next-of-kin's new homesteads as requested by them. The graves are located in three informal burial ground areas on the remaining extent of the farm Kliprand 8627 HT, Dannhauser Local Municipality, Amajuba District Health Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The next-of kin of the affected graves were contacted by Ikwezi Mine and the need for the graves to be relocated has been explained to them. They consequently gave written permission (in the form of affidavits) for the graves to be relocated. Additional to this, the following action were taken: • All the graves were marked and numbered; • A graves register was compiled; • Bilingual (isiZulu and English) newspaper notices announcing the intention to relocate the graves were published twice in the Newcastle Advertiser Observer (on 14 September 2018); • Bilingual (isiZulu and English) notices were published in the Provincial Government Gazette for KwaZulu-Natal; • Bilingual site notices announcing the intention to relocate the graves were erected at the grave sites. It must be mentioned that Ikwezi Mine has been in continuous contact with the next-of-kin of the affected graves and they are fully aware of the relocation process.
