ProposalDescription:

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd and North Coast Funerals has been appointed by Somkhele Coal Mine to assist with the relocation of three (3) graves that will be affected by mining in the area mentioned above. The excavated human remains from the graves will be relocated to the next-of kin’s new homestead, as requested by them. The description and location of these graves are as follow: • KQ/GR/01: 28°18’38.77”S; 32°4’51.35”E • KQ/GR/02: 28°18’38.07”S; 32°4’50.71”E • KQ/GR/03: 28°18’19.44”S; 32°4’46.52”E The excavated human remains from the graves will be relocated to the next-of kin’s new homestead, as requested by them in the Mpukunyoni and Hluhluwe Tribal lands. The graves will be relocated from the Somkhele Mine in the KwaQubuka area, Mtubatuba Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal.

Expanded_Motivation:

Tendele coal mine, hereafter referred to as the mine, has the mining rights for this land (KZN 30/5/1/2/2/216 MR) in which mining activities is currently occurring. All the homesteads and families on this land, have been relocated (with contracts and compensation) due the current mining activities on this land. The Next of kin (NoK) of these graves has been located and is asking their deceased family members to be relocated to their new homestead and not left within the mining area. Additionally, with the graves relocated to the new homesteads they do not run the risk of being disturbed in any way, especially towards the future mining of this area, which is in the direction of the graves. The family members wishing to visit the graves are currently required to fill in registers and escorted to the graves which are not very intimate. The family members visitation of the deceased, in the mining area, is a high risk for both the family members and the mine. Thus is it is in the best interest of all affected for these graves to be relocated.
