ProposalDescription:

There are more than 100 objects collected in South Africa between about 1840 and the mid 1880s. Her Woodrooffe male ancestor was married to the daughter of a Zulu chief. The artifacts may have been handed down as a result of the marriage. His father, Henry Reade Woodrooffe, was a missionary and later a deacon (?) of the English church in Grahamstown, South Africa. He travelled extensively among the local people and left very descriptive diaries (see images). It is also possible some of the articles may have come down through this channel. Without suggesting a definite link, there is a possibility that these objects may date from the time of famous battles between the British military and the Zulus.
