Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Application for Rescue Exhumation Permit of Accidentally Exposed Human Remains at gaMalebogo (Mafateng) Village on Portion of the Farm Buffelshoek 261 LR, Blouberg Local Municipality, Capricorn District, Limpopo Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

After the February/March rain in the region, human remains were exposed. This prompted local people to report such revelation to the chief, who then reported the matter to the relevant authority. Human remains are of significance by their principal relation to people, Section 36 of the National Heritage Resources Act, Act 25 of 1999 gives priority for the protection of graves and burial grounds more than 60 years of age. The World Archaeological Congress (WAC) has tabulate several ethical standards for the treatment of human remains. In consideration of all legal, ethical and moral standards as observed in South Africa and in consultation with the local chief and communities who by association are related to these remains. It is thus requested that SAHRA: Grave and Burial section spontaneously issues a rescue permit to allow for further investigation to take place, so that the road can be resuscitated. Currently, the closure of the road has been inconvenience to the community, similarly the exposure of human remains is unethical to human dignity
