Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Skeletonized human remains were uncovered during pipe-laying activities at Chainage 1900 ORWRDP. A rescue excavation of the remains is necessary. Written consent from the directly affected family members as well as the land owner was obtained to do so. The grave in question is situated in the Limpopo Province

Expanded_Motivation:

Human remains were inadvertently discovered in a trench wall during construction activities. Mr Jimmy Mnisi from Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) contacted Mr Coen Nienaber to assist since he was the consultant for previous rescue exhumations. After consultations with the local communities it was confirmed that the grave was that of Molapo Monwana Sebaretlane. The directly affected families (Molapo and Mosehla) gave written consent that the remains should be removed so that construction can continue. TCTA contracted Mr Coen Nienaber to proceed with the permit application and exhumation of the remains. Even though construction in this area has been halted the remains are still threatened due to it being partially exposed and will need immediate rescue excavation and exhumation so as to ensure the respectful handling of Mr Molapo Monwana Sebaretlane's remains and to ensure that construction can continue.
