Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Relocation and expansion of the existing Sani Pass border post.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Border Control Operation Coordinating Committee (BCOCC) currently operates a non-commercial port of entry (PoE) at Sani Pass, which acts as an entry point into Lesotho approximately 13.5km in the middle of the Maloti Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. The existing port of entry is located within a world heritage site, managed by the KwaZulu Natal Ezemvelo Nature Conservation Board (EZKZN Wildlife). vit is therefore proposed that the existing Port of Entry be relocated and expanded. The current site restricts expansion and improvement of the port of entry, whilst also failing to serve the growing demand in cross border traffic. Key to the expansion objective is the need to convert from a non-commercial to a commercial port of entry. The property affected by the proposed development is formally described as Subdivision 1 of the Farm Good Hope Number 7168, Kwa-Zulu Natal. The property is under the ownership of the Republic of South Africa.
