Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

HERITAGE IMPACT ASSESSMENT IN TERMS OF SECTION 34 (1) OF NHRA FOR THE PROPOSED TOTAL DEMOLISHING OF MOROKWENG PRIMARY SCHOOL SITUATED IN KAGISO MOLAPO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY OF DR RUTH SEKGOMOTSI MOMPATI DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, NORTH WEST PROVINCE IN SOUTH AFRICA.

Expanded_Motivation:

THE SCHOOL WAS CONSTRUCTED OVER 60 YEARS AGO BY THE PARENTS AS A WAY OF ENSURING THAT THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVE QUALITY EDUCATION AT A REASONABLE DISTANCE. THE MATERIALS USED AND THE ENTIRE SCHOOL AS A WHOLE HAVE NO ARCHAEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND POSSES A SAFETY THREAT TO THE TEACHERS AND LEANER. LAST YEAR (2022) JULY, THE PARENTS OF THE LEARNERS ALSO CONTESTED AGAINST THEIR CHILDREN BEEN TAUGHT IN THE BUILDINGS AS THE CLAIMED THAT THEY WERE NOT SAFE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN REFURBISHED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE CAUSE OF THE YEARS AS EVIDENT BY THE MODERN BUILDING MATERIALS. ALL THE CHANGES THAT HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE CAUSE OF THE YEARS RESULTED IN THE BUILDING LOOSING ITS AUTHENTICITY. BASED ON THE FIELD INSPECTION OF THE BUILDING, THERE IS NOTHING WORTHY TO BE RETAINED AS MOST MATERIALS WERE REPLACED.
