Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

The proposed Sishen Expansion Project at SIOM comprises of further pit expansions that include Far south pushback 21 and 19, Lylyveld pit expansion, C&G stockpile at Far south and Lylyveld pit, Moolmans workshop, access road and pollution control dam, proposed Far south Waste Rock Dump, heavy and light vehicle crossing, expansion of the existing tyre storage area, heavy mining equipment Parkup area, proposed haul roads, and associated mining infrastructure, proposed rerouting of telephone line, powerline and pipelines.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Sishen must obtain several environmental authorisations. These include a Waste Management License and Environmental Authorisation from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (“DMRE”), a Water Use License from the Department of Water and Sanitation (“DWS”) and protected plant species permits from the Departments of Nature Conservation and Forestry (“DENC”) and Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment (“DFFE”). • Far South (Pushback 21) (47 ha). The Far South pit (Pushback 21) will be backfilled/in-filled to an extent. • Pit Expansion (40 ha) The mine planners have identified several areas where the pit boundary expands over the next few years. • Pushback 19 Pit (15 ha) The Pushback 19 pit was assessed and approved in the 2019 EIA/EMP as a dump. Approval is required for the establishment of a pit. • Lyleveld pit (110 ha) Expansion of the current approved pit 15 ha (2017). No new infrastructure is proposed. • C&G stockpile area Proposed C&G stockpile area located south of the approved topsoil stockpile area (west of Pushback 19), within the approved topsoil stockpile area. • Far south Waste Rock Dump The far south Waste Rock Dump will be 90 hectares in extent and will receive waste rock from PB 21. • Moolmans Maintenance Workshop (6.5 ha) A new workshop is planned close to the Nooitgedacht filling station and includes the following: o Proposed pollution control dam for collection of all affected water from the Moolmans area 120 x 120 m. o Washbay for Heavy Mobile Equipment (“HME”) – The Wash Bay floor must accommodate a Caterpillar 789D Haul Truck. Wash bay must have a slope of 1:100 to the waste-water canal. Floor must be designed to prevent any slippage. Drainage must be provided to the Silt trap. Stop blocks must be installed to prevent an incident in the case of vehicle slipping on slit in the wash bay. o Separation Plant – silt trap, sumps, oil/water separator. o Washbay for Support Machinery and LDVs – The Wash Bay floor must accommodate a Caterpillar 789D Haul Truck. Wash bay must have a slope of 1:100 to the waste-water canal. Floor must be designed to prevent any slippage. Drainage must be provided to the Silt trap. Stop blocks must be installed to prevent an incident in the case of vehicle slipping on slit in the wash bay. o LDV Service bays (4 LDVs) o Storage yard for big components o Boiler shop o HME Service bays (4 HMEs) o Store with office o Oil handling Storage facilities - A 12 metre oil handling and storage container, standard height on the side of the building. o Office block, change room, caucus room, etc. • Tyre Storage Yard (4.5 ha) Expansion of the current Tyre Storage Yard. Proposed expansion to the west and alterative to the north of the Existing Tyre Storage Yard. • Heavy and light vehicle crossing The proposed crossing is proposed just north of the existing Caravan Park on the old Dingleton road.
