ProposalDescription:

Mining Permit Application for mining of gravel

Expanded_Motivation:

This will be a very small project (only 5 ha). The application area is situated in a valley bottom, on the banks of the Moolmanspruit. The site is characterized as being an already disturbed area, which looks as if previous mining activities have taken place here and was left unrehabilitated. There is an old unrehabilitated pit, filled with water on the western boundary fence and the remainings of old infrastructure, such as a few old sheds of containers on the southern boundary fence. Access to the area is gained by an existing gravel road that turns off from the R70 that runs between Ficksburg and Rosendal. It will be a small scale sand mining operation. The main mining activities will be the excavation of Stone Aggregate (gravel) and Dolomite bearing resource and stockpiling it form where it will be crushed and screened and transported to the clients. All the waste from the screening plant will be first placed back into the bottom of the excavation, hereafter the topsoil will be placed back as a growth medium and the sides of the excavation will be properly sloped.
